Workshop 2018 - Rossini Lab: Language, Music and Theatre

Types of admission
There are several types of admission to our courses and workshops:
1) Rossini Lab – Performance Program (15 positions)
From May 7 to June 1, 2018.
More than 152 hours of intensive workshops in acting, and Italian language and culture at a minimum price, thanks to the contribution of the Italian Institute of Culture – Montreal.
Dedicated to those who already have some experience or have embarked on a career in the world of Opera.
To enter this program, applicants must submit their application by April 29, 2018.
2) Italian Lab (10 positions)
From May 7 to May 25, 2018.
45 hours of Italian language and Italian diction.
For those who have a passion for Italian language and culture but have little or no experience in the field of performance arts.
Participants in the Language and culture program are not required to pass any selection, and have access to all the morning language classes (Italian language and Italian diction) at a competitive price. Students enrolled in this curriculum can also choose to take a specific selection of courses and / or workshops at the standard price of the Italian Institute of Culture.

3) Commedia dell’Arte Lab (10 positions)
May 26 – 27, 2018.
12 hours of Commedia dell’Arte and masks workshop
This package is dedicated to those who want to participate in the Commedia dell’Arte workshops only, held by Chiara Cimmino e Valerio Vittorio Garaffa.
Participants in the Commedia dell’Arte Lab are not required to pass any selection, and have full access to the Commedia dell’Arte workshop at a competitive price. Students enrolled in this curriculum can also choose to take a specific selection of courses and / or workshops at the standard price of the Italian Institute of Culture.

4) Lirica Lab I (10 positions) – Annamaria Popescu (McGill University)
May 11 to 18, 2018.
8 hours of Bel Canto.
For those who want to participate in all the Bel Canto workshops taught by Annamaria Popescu.
Participants in the Lirica Lab I are not required to pass any selection and have access to all the workshops related to Lirica Lab I at a competitive price. Students enrolled in this curriculum can also choose to take a specific selection of courses and / or workshops at the standard price of the Italian Institute of Culture.

5) Lirica Lab II (10 positions) – Maestro Daniele Agiman
May 8 to 10, 2018.
12 hours of Bel Canto.
For those who want to participate in all the workshops taught by Maestro Daniele Agiman.
Participants in the Lirica Lab II are not required to pass any selection and have access to all the workshops related to Lirica Lab II at a competitive price. Students enrolled in this curriculum can also choose to take a specific selection of courses and / or workshops at the standard price of the Italian Institute of Culture.

6 hours of Bel Canto.

Participants in the Lirica Lab III are not required to pass any selection and have access to all the workshops related to Lirica Lab III at a competitive price. Students enrolled in this curriculum can also choose to take a specific selection of courses and / or workshops at the standard price of the Italian Institute of Culture.

Participants in the Lirica Lab IV are not required to pass any selection and have access to all the workshops related to Lirica Lab IV at a competitive price. 6 hours of Italian theatre and culture .
For those who want to participate in all the acting workshops taught by Claudio Pozzani.
Participants in the Teatro Lab IV are not required to pass any selection and have access to all the workshops related to Teatro Lab IV at a competitive price. Students enrolled in this curriculum can also choose to take a specific selection of courses and / or workshops at the standard price of the Italian Institute of Culture.

1) Rossini Lab – Voice and Performance Program
The performance program is dedicated to students of acting, dancing and Opera singing.
It is worth 152 hours of intensive training in Italian language, culture and diction combined with workshops in voice, movement, improvisation and interpretation.
Performance students, moreover, will be granted a prominent role in the final show. Given its 152 hours of formation under the direction of some of the most influential experts in theatre, Opera, and Italian language, the summer program Rossini Lab initial price is 3,000 CAD. However, thanks to the contribution of the Italian Institute of Culture – Montreal, all 15 participants will be awarded a 2,000 CAD scholarship.
In addition, participants in the Rossini Lab will have access to private lessons with Maestro Daniele Agiman, Annamaria Popescu, Esther Gontier, and one of the members of the prestigious Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance.
Candidate profile
Our ideal candidate:
- Has completed secondary studies
- Has a functional knowledge of French or English
- Has a beginners or intermediate proficiency in Italian, or plans to learn Italian in the upcoming semesters
- Has undertaken advanced training in performance arts such as acting, voice, and dance
- Shows artistic inclination and creativity, and a passion for Italian language and culture
- Is curious and autonomous, open to the world and to other languages and artistic forms
Admission Procedure
In order to be admitted, each candidate must send their application form, a casting picture, a detailed CV and a list of the characters from Rossini you would like to study to the following email: scuolagiovannigrasso@gmail.com.
All applications can also be accompanied by video audition showing the applicant’s acting abilities. The video audition can be performed in Italian, French or English, and it can be sent either via YouTube or Vimeo link. The video audition is requested but not required.
Once accepted, applicants must contact the Italian Cultural Institute in Montreal (cours.iicmontreal@esteri.it) for tuition and fees.

With its 152 hours of intensive and professional training with international experts in Italian language and theater, the initial price of the school is CAD 3,000.
