Workshop 2019 in acting, lyrical singing and Italian language

 

Scuola Internazionale di Teatro Italiano “Giovanni Grasso” and The Italian Institute of Culture – Montréal are proud to present “Sovrani – Sovereigns”, the 2019 Summer Workshop for professional development in the field of Italian language, opera, and the performing arts.

During four weeks of training, 10 – 15 selected students will explore the characters, themes, theatrical genres, and language of royalty in Italian Opera and theatre. They will work on some of the most iconic roles of Italian Opera and bring those character to life on the final show.

Recipients

The workshop is dedicated to: 

  • students of lyrical singing and professional lyrical singers
  • students of acting and professional actors

Where and when

The school and the workshops will be hosted by the Italian Institute of Culture, located in Downtown Montreal (1200, avenue Dr. Penfield – Montréal, Québec, H3A 1A9). The training will take place from May 27 to June 20, from 9:30 to 17:30, and the final staging will take place Thursday, June 20.

Admissions

There are two types of admission:

Voice and Performance Program

May 27 to June 20, 2019

 

The Voice and Performance Program is dedicated to students of voice and acting.

It is worth 152 hours of intensive training in Italian language, culture and diction combined with workshops in voice, movement, improvisation, and interpretation.

Voice and Performance students will be granted a prominent role in the final show.

Given its than 152 hours of formation under the direction of some of the most influential experts in theatre, Opera and Italian language, the Voice and Performance program initial price is 3,000 CAD.

However, thanks to the contribution of the Italian Institute of Culture – Montreal, all selected participants will be awarded a 2,000 CAD scholarship.

Other scholarships might be available.

Performance Program

May 27 to June 20, 2019

 

The Performance Program is dedicated to acting students.

It is worth 90 hours of intensive training in movement, improvisation, interpretation, text and character analysis.

Performance students will be granted a prominent role in the final show.

The Performance program initial price is 1500 CAD.

However, thanks to the contribution of the Italian Institute of Culture – Montreal, all selected participants will be awarded a 750 CAD scholarship.

Other scholarships might be available.

Candidate profile

Our ideal candidate:

  • Has completed secondary studies
  • Has a functional knowledge of French or English
  • Has a beginners or intermediate proficiency in Italian, or plans to learn Italian in the upcoming semesters
  • Has undertaken advanced training in performance arts such as acting, voice, and dance
  • Shows artistic inclination and creativity, and a passion for Italian language and culture
  • Is curious and autonomous, open to the world and to other languages and artistic forms

 

Admission Procedure

In order to be admitted, each candidate must send their application form, a casting picture and a detailed CV to the following email: scuolagiovannigrasso@gmail.com.

Once accepted, applicants must contact the Italian Cultural Institute in Montreal (cours.iicmontreal@esteri.it) for tuition and fees.
