Advanced Workshop in Italian Acting and Interpretation: Pirandello, 150 years of theatre

The Workshop is an Advanced Class in Italian Acting and Interpretation. During their three weeks of training, 15 – 20 selected students studied and worked closely with professionals of Italian theatre and literature, improving their skills in language and culture, acting, movement, improvisation, diction, text analysis and interpretation.

In 2017, in occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Nobel Prize winner author Luigi Pirandello, the School and the Italian Institute of Culture staged the play “Tonight we play Pirandello – Three One-Act plays”, at the Casa d’Italia theater, in the heart of Little Italy.

Recipients

The workshop offers a Performance Program and a Language and Culture Program. They are dedicated to: 

  • students of acting, dancing and singing and professional actors, singers, performers
  • Italian language and culture students and enthusiasts with no stage experience

Where and when

The school and the workshops are organized and hosted by the Italian Institute of Culture, located in Downtown Montreal (1200, avenue Dr. Penfield – Montréal, Québec, H3A 1A9).

The training took place from June 5 to 21 from 9:30 to 17:30, and the final staging took place Thursday, June 22.

Who is Luigi Pirandello?

Luigi Pirandello is an Italian dramatist and writer.

He was awarded the 1934 Nobel Prize in Literature.

For his power to turn psychological analysis into theatre,

he is considered on of the most important playwrights of 20th century.
